モアイの石像は、ほんとうに不思議な彫刻だと思います。簡素で凛とした石の彫刻は、芸術的であり、神秘的であり、まさにモアイ島のあの風景にピッタリとあった佇まいのように思います。どのような意図で、何を考えてつくられたのか、今では想像に任せるしかないようですが、悠久の歴史を刻んだ彫刻には、畏敬の念を抱くような摩訶不思議な存在感があるように思います。この存在感を思い浮かべながら、モアイの石像をつくってみることにしました。正直、簡単なように見えて、これほど難しかったものはないように思います。やはり、摩訶不思議な彫刻です。【99-04-20-0215】
I think the Moai stone statue is a truly mysterious sculpture. The simple and dignified stone sculptures are artistic and mysterious, and thier appearances are perfectly blending into the landscape of Moai. Now we can only imagine what that intent was and why it was made, but the sculpture engraved with eternal history seems to have a mysterious presence that  is awe-inspiring. I decided to make a Moai stone statue while thinking of this sense of existence.  Honestly,it seemed simple and easy, but I think nothing was more so difficult. After all it is a mysterious sculpture truly.
